The 2010 Election day has been set for Wednesday, October 27th.
New rules for Elections state that all prospective candidates are required to register with the SEO before beginning their campaign and before the close of nominations.
The registration dates are as follows:
- for Mayor, registration begins on May 1st and ends at the close of nominations
- for Councillors, registration begins on June 30th and ends at the close of nominations
Qualifications to be Nominated as a Candidate are:
- a Canadian citizen,
- at least 18 years of age on Election Day,
- a resident of Manitoba,
- a qualified voter of the Town (has either resided or owned property in the Town for at least 6 months before Election Day),
- not subject to disqualification under The Municipal Act or any other Act such as a judge of the Court of Queen's Bench or the Court of Appeal, a provincial judge or justice of the peace, a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba or the Senate of House of Commons of Canada or an employee of the Municipality who has not been granted a leave of absence.
Nomination Requirments are as follows:
For Election of a Mayor or Councillor for the town:
- by at least 25 voters of the town, or
- not less than 1% of the voters of the ward (whichever is less);
Nominations close September 21st, 2010. |
