Position Objectives:

The Town of Ste. Anne is accepting applications for a full-time public works lead hand. Under the supervision of the public works manager, the public works lead is responsible for the public works department, providing professional leadership and direction for including, but not limited to day-to-day maintenance of the Town’s infrastructure services such as sewer maintenance, and facility operation, sanitation, street maintenance, storm and sanitary sewer operations, roadways and sidewalks. Provide emergency response for snow and ice, flood, severe weather mitigation. Operations of a variety of construction and maintenance equipment as needed. Infrastructure maintenance and budgeting for repairs, or additional upgrades.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with public works manager with daily staff duties, scheduling road maintenance, park maintenance, signage, sewer repairs and other related areas.
  • Machine operation (municipal owned vehicles, pick-up trucks, backhoe, street sweeper, dump trucks, salt spreaders, snow plows, garbage trucks etc.) as required.
  • The operation of power tools and equipment, such as mowers, chain saws, air compressors, etc. when required.
  • Inspect and procure services and repair equipment as required.
  • Oversee repairs to municipal roads, curbs, and sidewalks as required.
  • Maintenance of sanitary and storm sewers and/or conducting routine maintenance.
  • Managing sweeping and the cleanup of debris and materials from roads will be required as well as snow and ice removal, including manual shoveling of snow.
  • Complete assigned tasks, overseeing maintenance of parks, playgrounds, scheduling ice bookings, overseeing the hockey and curling arenas.
  • Misc. painting and concrete works.
  • Snow removal, monitor lift stations, and lagoon maintenance.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Desirable Training and Experience:

  • Five years supervisory or management experience in municipal public works or facilities management an asset.
  • bilingual, French and English, both written and spoken, is an asset.
  • Valid 3 driver’s license with air endorsement (or willing to obtain one).  
  • Minimum of three (3) to four (4) years of pertinent and applicable equivalent experience in road related construction, road operations and utilities with demonstrable proficiency in the operation of heavy truck, loader, graders, sweepers, and other such heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience in the construction of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, installation and repair of sanitary, storm sewer systems, ditching, and grading.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instruction and maintain records as assigned.
  • Should be mechanically inclined.
  • Normal hours of work are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday
  • Must be willing to work days, evenings and weekends as required (on call).
