Public Works Lead Hand
PUBLIC WORKS LEAD HAND
The Town of Ste. Anne is accepting applications for a full-time Public Works Lead Hand position. Under the supervision of the Public Works Manager, the Public Works Lead Hand is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day maintenance of the Town’s infrastructure services. The Lead Hand also operates a variety of construction and maintenance equipment as needed. The Lead Hand works with management to ensure that required Town equipment is operational and all seasonal equipment is fully prepared for use. Additionally, he/she is required to work with and supervise staff under the direction of the Public Works Manager.
Duties:
- Assign daily jobs to members of the public works department,
- Inspect, maintain, and perform repairs of storm sewer systems, road infrastructure, sidewalks, potholes, and road shoulders which may include paving and spreading asphalt.
- Sweep sidewalks and streets as assigned.
- Perform winter control procedures which include sanding, salting, and snow removal.
- Assist in resolving drainage issues, boulavard and topsoil repair.
- Maintenance of the facilities and grounds.
- Pick up debris, brush, refuse, etc. from municipal roads, and sidewalks.
- Perform maintenance on Public Works building and facility grounds and other municipal buildings and properties as assigned.
- Repair and install traffic signs as assigned.
- Operate heavy equipment
- Work collaboratively with employees of other Town departments.
- Cut grass on municipal property, vacant lots, roadsides, etc. as assigned.
- Maintaining service and safety log books.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of grade 12, with additional relevant hands on or (civil technology, management, etc.) post-secondary education is an asset.
- Valid 3 driver’s license with air endorsement.
- Minimum of three (3) to four (4) years of pertinent and applicable equivalent experience in road-related construction, road operations, and utilities with demonstrable proficiency in the operation of heavy trucks, tractors, backhoes, graders, sweepers, and other such heavy equipment.
- Knowledge and experience in the construction of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, installation and repair of sanitary and storm sewer systems, ditching, and grading.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and maintain records as assigned.
