HOW FAR IS THE HOMEOWNER RESPONSIBLE FOR?

A homeowner is responsible for their sewer line all the way up to, and including, the connection to the town's sewer line, which is passed their property line.

WHAT TO DO IF SEWER IS BACKED UP?

If your sewer line is backed up or blocked, there are important steps to follow such as:

1. Shut off water supply to avoid additional backup
2. Call a plumber

In case of an emergency pertaining to the sewer system, please call the Town of Sainte-Anne Emergency line (204) 392-4788. Please leave a message with your name, address and phone number with details.

Please note that the Town of Sainte-Anne does not provide services to private sewer lines.

 

THINGS TO PREVENT FROM ENTERING THE SEWER SYSTEM

Clothing, towels, cloth diapers or diaper wipes are all items that have been pulled from plugged sewer lines. Diaper wipes, rags and feminine products do not disintegrate. When such items are flushed, they end up plugging the lines and causing pump failures at the lift stations. While some items are deemed flushable, they may not be safe for the sewer systems.

Avoid dumping cooking oils and fats down the drains. We are suggesting oils and fats would be better disposed of by pouring it into a container or bag and sent to the landfill rather than the sewer system.

It would also be beneficial that your home is equipped with a backflow prevention device.
